Storystorm Day #26: A Very Scary Story

At the prompting of today's Storystorm blogger Rebecca Hirsch, I thought about what non-fiction topics I had any expertise in, and chose a topic I don't necessarily know that well, but have been thinking a lot about lately: climate change.

Are there picture books that try to explain the issue of climate change to children that young? I have no idea, but I decided to give it a try. The trickiest thing (and maybe the reason there are no climate change picture books -- if there aren't) was that it's a very scary subject to present to young children. I decided to deal with this not by minimizing the scariness, but by making it part of the verbal humor of the story, which begins like this:
This is a VERY SCARY STORY.
Scarier than GHOSTS.
Scarier than MONSTERS!
Scarier than HAVING TO CLEAN UP YOUR ROOM!!!
