PiBoIdMo Day #10: Foster Annie

In response to Janna Matthies' challenge to write about difficult life experiences, I wrote the first draft of a story about a girl in foster care who's had four sets of foster parents so far and has yet to be adopted. Here's how it begins:
When Annie was born, her parents couldn’t take care of her, so she was put in foster care, which is when other families take care of you until you’re old enough to live on your own, or until a family decides to adopt you for good. Annie was too young to remember her first foster parents, the Grays, but she still sleeps with the quilt that Mrs. Gray made for her. She also has a letter that the Grays wrote for her to read when she was old enough.
I go on to describe the virtues and failings of each set of foster parents she's had, including her present ones, portraying her experiences as a mix of challenges and blessings.
